CRVA 50th Day 9 – Wrapping Up in Alberta and Passing the Torch

June 25th, 2025

I left Gas City Campground this morning after my Zoom call and bidding a fond farewell to Lloyd and Bev. Before heading out, they gave me a final recommendation—go camping near Kananaskis. They spoke so highly of it, I’ve already added it to my must-visit list for the future.

Today’s journey was a short one—just over 300 km to Calgary. After days of long hauls across the prairies, it felt like a breeze. But this stop marks an important transition.

I had arranged to store the CRVA 50th Anniversary truck and trailer at Western RV Country in Airdrie, just north of Calgary. I arrived right on schedule, around 3 PM, and was warmly welcomed by Al, Dean, and Brandon.  I’ve known Al and Brandon’s father, Bruce—owner of the Western RV Country Group—for many years, and they stepped up without hesitation.

I’m incredibly grateful for their tremendous support in helping to keep our journey moving forward seamlessly and with heart. Their kindness, along with the support I’ve received from so many others throughout this journey, reflects the true spirit of the RV community—welcoming, dependable, and always ready to lend a hand.

Now, I pass the keys to Joss Penny, Executive Director of the British Columbia Lodging and Campground Association, and his son Jaimie. They’ll continue the CRVA 50th RV Tour westward to Vancouver, where the unit will appear at the Vancouver Craft Beer & Music Festival on July 12th, alongside Go RVing Canada, to promote the RV lifestyle and support Care Camps.

They’ve got some great stops planned along the way:

  • July 2: Canyon Hot Springs Resort, Revelstoke, BC

  • July 3: Camperland RV Resort & Cabins

  • July 4: Traveland RV in Langley, BC (rest stop before the big event)

  • July 12: Vancouver Craft Beer and Music Festival

📸 If you’re near any of these locations, we encourage you to stop by, snap a photo with the RV tagging #CRVA50, and say hello to Joss and Jaimie! And if you haven’t already, please consider buying a ticket for a chance to WIN this $100,000 Canadian-made General Coach trailer and help give kids with cancer the opportunity to experience the outdoors through Care Camps.

🎟️ Every ticket makes a difference. Every kilometre tells a story.

While my time behind the Ford F150 wheel has ended, I’m not quite done yet writing.  I’ll be sharing one final blog entry once I’m back home tomorrow to reflect on the experience—what it’s meant to me, what I’ve learned, and why this journey will stick with me forever.

The RV continues west with Joss and Jaimie—but the memories and mission will continue. Stay tuned!
